2024 Honda Prologue Boasts Adventure-Ready Neo-Rugged Motif

The all-new midsize SUV features spacious styling and the highest standard driving range rating in its class.

The all-new 2024 Honda Prologue marks a pivotal moment in Honda's established history of electrification, debuting as its first all-electric SUV and setting a new standard for adventure-ready performance. As the first Honda model designed primarily through advanced virtual reality visualization, the Prologue's cutting-edge development reflects its pioneering role in Honda's ongoing electrification strategy. Its spacious interior and neo-rugged styling make it suitable for daily drives and weekend escapes alike, while advanced charging solutions inspire confidence in EV newcomers. Boasting a best-in-class EPA range rating of 296 miles and DC fast charging capability, the Prologue combines innovation with a neo-rugged design that underscores Honda's forward-thinking approach to automotive design. Building on nearly 25 years of leadership in electrification, Honda has consistently pioneered new technologies, from the EV Plus electric vehicle in 1997 to the groundbreaking Insight hybrid in 1999, and the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle in 2002. This legacy has fueled record-breaking electrified vehicle sales in recent years, and the Prologue is now poised to lead the charge into the brand's sustainable future. As Honda bridges customers to its future lineup of volume battery-electric vehicles, the Prologue serves as a symbol of its electrified evolution and a cornerstone of its vision for achieving 100% zero-emission vehicle sales in North America by 2040.

We know customers who have a good experience with a hybrid vehicle are more likely to buy a battery electric vehicle in the future. Our strategy is focused on introducing a higher percentage of hybrids in core models in the near term, making a committed effort to achieve higher volume leading to the introduction of our Honda Prologue.
Dave Gardner, Executive Vice President of American Honda

Rugged Design

Project leader Jiro Ikeda brought over 30 years of design expertise to the development of the 2024 Honda Prologue, assembling a team of talented young designers to craft a bold new SUV motif. Under his guidance, the team embraced a Neo-Rugged design philosophy, blending modern aesthetics with timeless simplicity. This innovative approach resulted in clean, minimal surface lines that capture the adventurous spirit of the Prologue. Ikeda's leadership not only ensured a fresh perspective but also infused the design process with the experience and vision necessary to create an SUV that feels both contemporary and enduring. The 2024 Honda Prologue offers a versatile range of trims including the EX FWD, EX AWD, Touring FWD, Touring AWD, and Elite AWD which each cater to different driving preferences. Built on a state-of-the-art electric vehicle platform, the Prologue combines multi-link front and rear suspensions fine-tuned by Honda engineers. Front-wheel-drive models feature a single front-mounted motor, delivering a confident 212 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque for smooth and efficient performance. For those seeking enhanced capability, the Elite trim comes standard with all-wheel drive, while EX and Touring trims offer it as an option. The dual-motor AWD setup provides a significant boost, generating 288 horsepower and 333 lb.-ft. of torque for quick, responsive acceleration and superior control, whether navigating city streets or venturing into rugged terrain.

As the project leader for the exterior design of the Honda Prologue, it was very exciting to work with a young team of designers with new capabilities to create an SUV with clean, simple lines and a strong influence from our global EV models, including the Honda e. We balanced that with a neo-rugged look that you see in our current lineup to ensure Prologue represents a true Honda EV.

Spacious Feeling

The interior cabin of the Prologue showcases cutting-edge design made possible by advanced virtual reality (VR) technology, making it the first Honda model primarily designed through VR visualization. This immersive approach enabled designers and engineers from Honda's Los Angeles studio and global teams to collaborate seamlessly, amidst the challenges of working remotely. Using VR, the team explored endless possibilities for colors, materials, and textures, while refining details with real-time feedback. The result is a modern, tech-rich cabin featuring a generous layout that provides ample space for passengers and cargo. The Prologue's interior emphasizes innovation and comfort with a standard fully digital 11-inch driver display panel and an 11.3-inch audio/connectivity display, ensuring intuitive access to key information and entertainment. Fine-tuned aerodynamics reduce cabin noise and enhance the serene driving experience which is a critical feature for EVs where the absence of engine sounds can amplify external noise.

Virtual reality prototyping removed limitations to the interior design and allowed us to address feedback quicker and collaborate more cohesively with the HMI and color, materials and finishes design teams.

Additionally, Google Maps can precondition the EV battery for faster charging at DC Fast charging stations, ensuring minimal downtime for adventures. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ compatibility come standard, delivering effortless smartphone connectivity. The Prologue's digital experience is anchored by an 11-inch driver instrumentation display and a large 11.3-inch center touchscreen, making it easy to access critical information and entertainment. Further enhancing convenience, the Prologue introduces Honda's first pocket-style wireless smartphone charger. For those seeking a premium audio experience, an available 12-speaker Bose sound system delivers immersive sound quality. With fast and secure over-the-air (OTA) updates, the Prologue ensures its technology remains current and capable, offering a seamless and future-forward driving experience.

Honda's long standing in-vehicle tech collaborations with Google and Apple allow us to offer our customers their choice of intuitive and accessible digital services that will enhance the ownership experience of the all-new 2024 Honda Prologue.

Safety Features

The Prologue comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard across all trims, underscoring Honda's commitment to occupant protection and peace of mind. This advanced system includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking, designed to anticipate and respond to potential hazards seamlessly. Combined with a multi-angle rearview camera and road departure mitigation, these systems work together to monitor the road and offer enhanced awareness and protection on every drive. In addition to the Honda Sensing® package, the Prologue features a range of comfort and convenience options that contribute to a secure driving experience. Standard features such as a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control ensure both comfort and focus behind the wheel, which are key when navigating through varying driving conditions.

Incorporating virtual and augmented reality in the design process allowed our Honda engineers and designers to merge digital content and physical assets in a cohesive way to interact with what they're experiencing and touching in an immersive environment. Honda Prologue was key to fully using VR in a data-led design process, with clay modeling as the verification tool, something we will carry forward into the development of other Honda products.

Long Electric Range

Honda's first all-electric SUV offers a comprehensive suite of charging solutions designed to provide peace of mind for new EV buyers. With a 296-mile EPA range and an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Prologue ensures that recharging is quick and convenient. When utilizing DC fast charging, Prologue can gain 65 miles of range in just 10 minutes, with charging speeds up to 150 kW. This rapid recharging helps keep drivers on the road longer and minimizes downtime during adventures. Honda offers three distinct charging packages, all included in the purchase price of the Prologue. These packages offer flexibility with options such as public charging credits, home charging equipment, and installation credits. Through partnerships with major charging networks like EVgo and Electrify America, Prologue owners will have access to the nation's largest public fast charging infrastructure. Depending on the package chosen, customers can receive up to $750 in public charging credits or a $500 installation credit for home charging solutions. Additionally, Electrify America offers 60 kWh of complimentary public charging for first-time Honda EV owners, ensuring even greater convenience on the road. For ease of use, the HondaLink® Smartphone App allows Prologue owners to find available charging stations, pay for charging, redeem credits, and manage subscriptions across various networks. This seamless connectivity enhances the ownership experience, making it easier to plan trips and manage the Prologue's charging needs. As an added bonus, most all-new 2024 Honda Prologue models will qualify for the U.S. $7,500 federal EV tax credit. This tax credit applies to Prologues built after February 26, 2024, helping make the transition to an all-electric vehicle even more affordable for buyers.

We announced a plan two years ago, positioned as a smart strategy, to co-develop an electric vehicle with GM. What will result is not just a more efficient process, but a great looking new vehicle, the Honda Prologue. Our dealers are excited about Prologue and the fact that it is just the first volume Honda EV, with more Honda engineered EVs we will begin building in North America coming to market in 2026.
Mamadou Diallo, Vice President of Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

New e:Architecture

The 2024 Honda Prologue marks a significant milestone in Honda's electrification journey, setting a new benchmark for the brand's electric future. As the first phase of Honda's aggressive North American EV strategy, the Prologue paves the way for an exciting lineup of all-electric vehicles. Honda plans to introduce 30 new EV models globally by 2030, with a target of 2 million EVs sold worldwide, including nearly 500,000 units in North America alone. Following the Prologue, models based on Honda's new e:Architecture will debut in 2026, followed by a series of affordable EVs in 2027. This timeline highlights Honda's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The Prologue is not just a step forward for Honda—it represents the brand's unwavering dedication to innovation, connectivity, and sustainability.

We don't want to lose emotion and the human touch to Honda design, so we won't pursue a purely digital approach, but we are really excited about the Honda products that will be coming to customers in the future by leveraging VR technology. It's an ongoing effort to further explore the technical capabilities of VR and AR in our development centers worldwide for cross-collaboration that will further enhance the appeal and quality of our products.
