October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Galleria Dallas is commemorating this important observance by partnering with Genesis Women's Shelter & Support on an educational exhibit with important information for North Texans October 4-31, 2021. The free exhibit will be located at Galleria Dallas, 13350 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX 75240, on Level I on the gallery wall across from Apple.
The statistics on domestic violence are staggering. While the national figures suggest one in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, for Texas women, the number is closer to one in three. Genesis Women's Shelter is the region's leading provider of safety, shelter and support for women experiencing domestic violence, and they've recently announced some important improvements in services. While the center has long offered victims a 24-hour emergency phone line, they are now offering 24-hour a day text access to ensure women can discretely reach out for help. To call or text the hotline, contact 214.946.HELP (4357). Additionally, they plan to open a second Outreach office location in Southern Dallas this fall.
The Galleria Dallas display offers not only a look on the scope and types of domestic violence, but information on the cycles of violence and how women might reach out for help. Additionally, the exhibit highlights the role men play in providing a solution to the domestic violence crisis and offers opportunities for involvement. Finally, the exhibit shares how those interested might donate and support this worthwhile cause.
We are thrilled to again partner with Genesis Women's Shelter,
explained Galleria Dallas Director of Marketing Megan Townsend. This fall, Galleria Dallas has been entirely dedicated to supporting women in our community and have created partnerships not only with Genesis, but with Texas Woman's Foundation, Northwood Women's Club and local artist Carolyn Joe.
Galleria Dallas has also named Genesis Women's Shelter as the beneficiary of their Alley Market October 15-16. The two-day festival hosts over a dozen local female owned businesses in a beautifully curated shopping market. Each of those businesses will donate 10% of their sales to Genesis Women's Shelter. Genesis volunteers will also staff an informational table during the Alley Market.
Genesis relies on the generosity of our community to help provide hope and healing for more than 3,700 women and children each year,
said Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women's Shelter. It is our hope that this partnership with Galleria Dallas will not only raise awareness during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but also ignite a zero-tolerance policy in our community that abuse is never acceptable.
