About 20 limestone blocks, weighing over 20,000 pounds each, are used to recreate the ancient Stonehenge monument (one of the most famous sites in the world) which exists near West Amesbury in England. Similar in size and shape to the original, this replica is duplicated exactly in horizontal size and stands at 70 percent of the original vertical dimensions with the tallest limestone slabs reaching 19 feet. Located on the campus of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, the exhibit was erected over a period of six weeks in the summer of 2004 by a community group hoping to attract visitors to the area. Admission is free.
