The World of Dolce and Gabbana and Alta Moda

Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce have long been designing and selling beautiful clothing and accessories for the rich and the fabulous. However, they have taken their design philosophy to the next level over the past decade. Alta Moda is more than a line of couture clothing for an exclusive client list—it is the embodiment of fashion as art.

History of Alta Moda

Alta Moda sprung forth as a lifestyle couture brand in 2012. The idea was to center Italian craftsmanship while exploring themes of decadence and Italian culture, as only Dolce & Gabbana could do. Their first showing in Taormina Siciliy drew an audience of 80 women from around the world, who spent a weekend immersing themselves in the luxurious lifestyle Alta Moda had to offer.

Fashion as a Lifestyle

Since then, Dolce & Gabbana have made a tradition of hosting an annual gathering to showcase their new Alta Moda lines. Their exclusive clientele come together for an extravagant celebration that spans days. What better way to show off your beloved Alta Moda pieces? After 10 years they have grown their client list to 1,000 lucky members. That's a lot of fashionable people to have in one place. Events change venue each year to provide fresh inspiration and scenery for each line. Most are locations around Italy, like Stucchi in Milan, a masked ball in Venice or a ballet at the Scala in Milan. Most recently Alta Moda celebrated its 10th anniversary in Syracuse, Sicily.

Themes of Alta Moda

Alta Moda pieces are made-to-measure for each client. Everything is manufactured in Italy, much of it coming directly from Dolce & Gabbana's laboratorio in Milan. To wear an Alta Moda garment is to be part of the history of Italian craftsmanship. As far as the pieces go, you can expect to see exquisite tailoring, long trains, delicate lace and plenty of embroidery. Many garments are encrusted with jewels and pearls. There is, of course, a lot of black, but this is cut with bold colors and patterns in typical Italian style. The most recent collection shown in Syracuse paid homage to the Sicilian woman, specifically the widows. Religious iconography was incorporated with exuberance. Dolce & Gabbana took their inspiration from the sacred and the profane.

Who's Wearing Alta Moda?

As you can imagine, many of Alta Moda's clients are among the rich and the famous. Dame Helen Mirren is a long-time supporter of the line. Sharon Stone, Mariah Carey and Drew Barrymore were spotted in head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana at the most recent event in Syracuse. In the past Jennifer Lopez, Doja Cat and Ciara have attended the events. Christian Bale is one of the Hollywood heartthrobs representing the men's line that was launched in 2016. There is no shortage of celebrities on Dolce & Gabbana's client list.

Opulence and quality craftsmanship come together to weave the world of Alta Moda. Dolce & Gabbana has seamlessly cultivated a new and holistic way to interact with high fashion and continues to grow the brand. Don't miss out on what's to come from this iconic designer duo.
