5 Things to Like About the 2018 Toyota Prius Prime

Starting at $27,300 and utilizing the Toyota New Global Architecture design platform, the Prius Prime offers a lot to like.

I'm probably not the typical consumer target for Toyota's economically-efficient Prius hybrid plug-in. I mean, I'm a moderately-high-maintenance contemporary woman whose stiletto-covered carbon footprint fits most cozily in a full-sized luxury car loaded with all the latest bells and whistles. Conversely however, I do have a particularly strong appreciation for being able to dart around town swiftly, changing lanes with ease, and zipping in and out of parking spots at will. Not to mention that the penny-pinching bargain shopper in me generally jumps at the chance to save a buck or two.

Starting at an MSRP of $27,300, the Prius Prime was introduced last year utilizing the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) design platform, and so far I've found the following five things that I really like about about the 2018 model.

Avant Garde Design

The first thing you'll notice about the Prius Prime is its signature aerodynamic exterior and it ultra-futuristic interior design. Simultaneously sleek and angular, the advanced construction and lightweight components create a somewhat alluring modern appeal.

Easy Maneuvering

Nimble at moderate in-town speeds, Prius Prime drives solid like a mid-sized sedan but with several benefits of a smaller compact car. A super-tight turning radius makes it easy to whip around corners, maneuver through traffic or around obstacles, and make u-turns quick and effectively.

See-Through Hatch

The dual-wave rear glass hatch, which allows for enhanced visuals and broadened lines of sight when glancing rearward, is like having eyes in the back of your head. Comprised of a lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced-polymer, the rear hatch is also now easier to close.

Deeply-Reclining Seats

SofTex-trimmed heated front seats and an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support keep vehicle occupants comfortable while driving. And if it becomes necessary to take a break and pull off of the road for a while, drivers are able to relax and perhaps catch an in-car nap since both front seats recline at an especially wide angle.

Infotainment System

The large 11.6-inch HD multimedia touchscreen display monitor is vertically-oriented and tablet-like in nature. Additionally, the advanced multi-information display positioned mid-dash adjacent to the driver offers sharp, clear, easy-to-read output with an attractive graphics package.

Additional Prius Prime features include JBL premium audio, Toyota Safety Sense technology, and a conveniently-located Qi wireless charging pad that ensures compatible smartphones stay ready to go. So with an estimated 133 MPGe and an EPA-estimated 640-mile total driving range, the Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid vehicle definitely has a lot to like.
