An American favorite is being reinvented as Ford answers the call from today's truck buyers who have been searching for a rugged, affordable, and maneuverable vehicle in the growing midsize truck segment. After an eight-year hiatus, the all-new Ford Ranger is returning to American roads in 2019 with a fully modernized design which will deliver best-in-class payload, best-in-class gas engine torque, and best-in-class towing capability.
Ford has invested $850 million in their Michigan Assembly Plant to retool the facility and build the all-new Ranger as well as the highly-anticipated new Ford Bronco which is scheduled to begin production in 2020. This turning point marks an exciting new era for the Detroit-area manufacturing plant which has weathered a fluctuation of highs and lows in the national automotive industry for the past six decades. Production of the 2019 Ford Ranger is now underway as part of an onslaught of new vehicles coming soon to the American auto market as the company aims to replace 75 percent of its U.S. portfolio.
From grueling lab tests to robotic testing deemed too harsh for humans to endure, Ford has intentionally tortured its 2019 Ranger from the jagged trails of the Australian Outback to the Arizona desert in order to ensure that the truck is up to Built Ford Tough durability standards. Available in entry-level XL, mid-level XLT, and high-level Lariat trims, the adventure-ready vehicle is designed for a new generation of midsize truck customers who have a tendency to blend urban living with off-the-grid weekend adventures.
The truck's manageable size and responsive acceleration make easy work of navigating through heavy traffic, while its nimble driving dynamics and feeling of planted stability encourage driver confidence along curving highways as well as rocky hillsides. And with EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 21 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined, the 2019 Ford Ranger is currently the most fuel-efficient gas-powered midsize pickup in America.
Prioritizing ground clearance to help climb over off-road obstacles, the FX4 Off-Road Package offers an extra boost of trail capability with specially-tuned shocks, all-terrain tires, a frame-mounted heavy-gauge steel front bash plate, frame-mounted skid plates, and FX4 badging. The package also provides an innovative Terrain Management System™ which includes four distinct drive modes which are shiftable on the fly along with Ford's all-new Trail Control™ technology which is like cruise control for the highway but designed for individual-wheel power and braking on low-speed, rugged terrain.
As the American appetite for pickups continues to grow, Ranger offers a clean, athletic appearance mixed with gritty character featuring a high-strength steel frame as well as a new exterior design, chassis, and powertrain developed specifically for North American truck customers. From its aerodynamic raked grille and muscular body with high belt line to its class-exclusive frame-mounted steel bumpers with available integrated trailer hitch receiver, the all-new Ranger has "Built Ford Tough" innovation engineered right into its DNA.
Ranger's twin-power dome hood houses a capable 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine mated to the only 10-speed automatic transmission in the segment. So not only does Ranger deliver best-in-class 310 lb.-ft. of torque while towing and climbing trails; but when properly equipped, the truck provides best-in-class 7,500 pounds of gas towing capacity with available tow package along with best-in-class 1,860 pounds of maximum payload for carrying a serious amount of gear.
Ranger's proven 2.3-liter EcoBoost provides a torque target on par with competing V6 engines, but with the efficiency of a four-cylinder,
said Hua Thai-Tang, executive vice president of Ford product development and purchasing. When you pair that with its 10-speed transmission, you've got one of the most versatile, powerful and efficient powertrains in the segment.
Inside the SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations, Ranger blends comfort and functionality with room for up to five people along with gear and accessories. The cab is packed with a suite of innovative driver-assist technologies including standard Automatic Emergency Braking to make driving easier. XLT and Lariat trim levels are further equipped with standard Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, a Reverse Sensing System, and class-exclusive Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage; while the Lariat additionally comes standard with Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Adaptive Cruise Control. Ranger also makes towing easier by storing up to three profiles for the class-exclusive Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage which keeps drivers notified when another vehicle is traveling next to the trailer.
Along with an 8-inch touch screen housed in the center stack for the available SYNC® 3 system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Ranger's instrument cluster contains dual LCD productivity screens for real-time vehicle, navigation, and audio information. An available FordPass™ Connect 4G LTE modem provides Wi-Fi hotspot access for up to 10 devices. Available B&O PLAY premium audio also delivers vehicle occupants a specially-tuned listening experience.
So whether you're rock climbing, jet skiing, or just running to the store, Ranger boasts a combination of efficiency, power, and capability solely unique to Ford. The truck will begin arriving at dealers nationwide in January 2019 starting at an MSRP of just 24,300.
