KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
You know a parade is going to be different than most when its floats include entries by Hooters, St. Paddy Disco Daddy, Citizens Against Mullet Discrimination, and 214-JAIL-SUX. And the swag is just as befitting. Each year, generally on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, the crowd screams for parade 'goodies' while beads drop through the air like rain and volunteers throw candy, coupons, poker chips, toothbrushes, and even green tortillas.
Time & Place
The parade is traditionally held on the Saturday preceding St. Patrick's Day (March 17) at around 11:00 AM. The procession travels southbound on Greenville Avenue between Wellon Street and SMU Blvd. You should absolutely arrive early for a good viewing spot.
Dress
This is a very festive event, and lots of people dress for the occasion. Of course, while most parade goers wear some form and shade of green, you're also likely to see green wigs, green scarves and accessories, clover-topped headbands, crazy hats, leprechaun jackets, etc. More than a few dogs have even been dyed green in the past or bedecked in bead necklaces.
Transportation
Don't plan to drive. Parking is extremely limited, so take DART. There are three stations located nearby (Park Lane Station, Lovers Lane Station, and Mockingbird Station) within convenient walking distance.
Hit the Road
When the parade draws to a close, move to the streets and spend the afternoon enjoying any of the many bars, restaurants, and concert venues along Greenville Avenue. As most local parade veterans know, that's where the party goes on (and on) all afternoon.
