The Black Edition of this luxury hybrid car is a harmonious fusion of style, high-end performance, and sustainability.
The Volvo S60, a prominent contender in the luxury compact sedan segment, boasts a rich history that showcases Volvo's dedication to safety, performance, and innovation. The first-gen S60 was launched in 2000 as a successor to the S70 and quickly gained popularity for its distinctive Scandinavian design and advanced safety features. Over the years, the S60 underwent several significant updates and redesigns, enhancing its appeal and solidifying its position as one of Volvo's most successful models. When the third-generation S60 was launched in 2018, Volvo took a bold step by exclusively offering a range of four-cylinder engines, demonstrating the brand's commitment to fuel efficiency without compromising on performance.
Unveiling the Black Edition
My press loan for the week was the Volvo S60 Recharge AWD Ultimate Black Edition. The Black Edition is a limited-edition package featuring a sleek and sophisticated design that sets it apart from its conventional counterparts. This special edition embraces a stylish monochromatic theme, where the classic Volvo design language meets bold contemporary elements.
Exterior Elegance
When you walk up to the S60 Black Edition it just oozes elegance and class. The exterior of this high-end sedan is wrapped in a glossy black metallic finish that I absolutely love because it is reminiscent of a bygone error. The color certainly enhances the S60’s presence and turns heads on the road. Every detail has been perfectly crafted, and the distinctive LED headlights, give the vehicle a confident look. The Black Edition also rides on exclusive black 19-inch diamond alloy wheels, further accentuating its sporty stance while maintaining a balance of refinement. A panoramic sunroof stretches across the top, allowing passengers to enjoy the natural light while it enhances the interior's luxurious ambiance.
Luxurious Interior
When you climb inside the special Black edition, you see how the Volvo craftsmanship embraces you in a cocoon of luxury and innovation. Premium Nappa leather upholstery with contrast stitching, along with meticulously designed details, creates an inviting atmosphere for the driver and passengers. The front seats offer exceptional comfort and support, making long journeys a pleasure. The driver's seat is equipped with power adjustments and lumbar support, ensuring an ergonomic and enjoyable driving experience. The infotainment system is housed in a nine-inch portrait touchscreen, serves as the control center for various functions, including navigation, connectivity, and the Bowers and Wilkins Premium Sound system.
Electrified Performance
Beyond its aesthetic appeal and advanced technologies, the Black Edition comes with a twin motor setup that combines a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain run by an 18.8KW High Voltage battery and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gas engine providing a seamless blend of performance and efficiency. Together, they produce an impressive total power output of 455 hp and 523 ib-ft of torque. One of the highlights of the S60 Recharge is its electric-only range. With the High Voltage battery pack, this plug-in hybrid can travel up to 40 miles on electric power alone allowing for emission-free commutes and short trips. For longer trips, the gas engine and eclectic motors work in harmony providing a combined Hwy/City range of 74 MPGes.
Other Black Edition Features
Metallic Exterior Paint
Black Ironmark Front Grille

The Volvo S60 Recharge Black Edition stands as a remarkable achievement in the world of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) luxury sedans; by uniting Volvo's signature Scandinavian design with cutting-edge hybrid technology. By walking that fine line Volvo, reaffirms its position as a frontrunner in the automotive industry's shift towards a greener and more sustainable future. So if you are looking for a well-done PHEV conversion with plenty of advanced technology and safety features that ensures a safe and enjoyable driving experience, the S60 Black Edition is probably a vehicle you should add to your shortlist.
