Toyota's commitment to the new Tacoma TRD Pro was focused on meeting the needs of adventure-seekers where roads fear to tread.
The Texas-manufactured 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro was named Mid-Size Pickup Truck of Texas
by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) at the Texas Truck Rodeo held at Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs Texas.
As America's best-selling mid-size pickup for ten years running, the recognition as Mid-size Pickup Truck of Texas confirms our vision of producing a truck that can tackle any off-road challenge,
said Mike Sweers, Tacoma chief engineer. Toyota's commitment to the new Tacoma TRD Pro was focused on meeting the needs of adventure-seekers where roads fear to tread, and we have proven that today.
The TRD program began back in 2015 with the Tundra TRD, so the 2017 Tacoma will be TRD's very first second-generation vehicle, so the engineers hand selected the parts for the 2017 Tacoma. The TRD Pro still has the first in segment direct-injection Atkinson-cycle 3.5L V-6 that produces 278hp.
Some new additions and changes the engineers thought important for 2017 include:
- FOX 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks tuned by TRD
- TRD-tuned front springs with a 1-inch lift
- TRD-tuned rear suspension with progressive-rate off-road leaf spring
- 16-inch TRD black alloy wheels with Goodyear Wrangler® All-Terrain Kevlar®-reinforced tires
