Over 70 journalists test-drove trucks, SUVs, and CUVs which competed in 17 different categories in order to determine which were best in class for Texas.
The Texas Auto Writers Association held their annual Texas Truck Rodeo at the Longhorn River Ranch near Dripping Springs Texas. The event was again sponsored by Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI). There were over 70 journalists present who drove trucks, SUVs, and CUVs competing in 17 different categories to determine which were best in class for Texas. FCA Group U.S. won a number of best of awards at the TAWA event including Luxury Truck of Texas for the Ram 1500 Longhorn. The Ram 1500 Longhorn's luxurious interior looks like it was made for Texans, resonating the most with our journalists,
said current TAWA President Nic Phillips.
The Longhorn uses reclaimed wood in the door trim from actual fence posts to give the truck a Texas-style feel. The designers even left in some of the barbed wire and weathering marks to give the wood that real-world appearance. The etched design patterns that are crafted for the seats are indicative of Texas-style stitching, and the design patterns would make most handmade saddlers or hand-stitched boot makers proud. In the back seat area, the seat pouches which are attached to the backs of the front seats are uniquely designed to look like Pony Express saddle bags with flaps and shiny buckles. Even the heavy-duty rubber backseat floor mats are molded to look like barbed-wire 'spurs' and 'prongs' which ties the unique Texas-style theme together.
If you are looking for a truck that has that old Lone Star rancher feel with premium materials and touches, you will want to check out this truck. Remember, it was voted Luxury Truck of Texas by a group of journalists, most of whom live in Texas themselves.
