Review: 2021 Lincoln Corsair AWD Reserve

The all-new Corsair has quickly become the shiny penny in the Lincoln Motor Company stable of vehicles.
The Corsair name may be a new to the vehicle buying public, but after a few minutes you quickly realize this nimble new Lincoln has the Quiet Flight DNA that is found in all other Lincoln vehicles. The Corsair may not have the size of a Navigator, but it still provides a whisper-quiet confident ride with a sophisticated interior just like the Navigator. Corsair's smooth and powerful ride inspires confidence,
says John Jraiche, Lincoln Corsair chief engineer. The technology is designed to respond to the road, truly enhancing the drive.
The Corsair name, which means journey in Latin, is not a new name in the Ford Motor Company fleet. It was used on several other Fords including the Edsel Corsair and the British Ford Corsair. It was built to replace the premium Lincoln MKC in the fleet as Lincoln works to move away from the MK name nomenclatures.
Three Models to Choose From
The new Corsair will be available in three distinct models that entice a more youthful owner to the Lincoln brand. There will be a standard model which has a starting price of $36,105, the Reserve at $43,050, and finally the Grand Touring which will be offered in both Hybrid and gas with a starting price of $50,909.
Test Model
The model I had for the week was the asher gray 2021 Reserve AWD with the premium black leather interior that reminded me of an executive boardroom at some high-end accounting or law firm in the 90's. All of the seats in the Corsair were every bit as comfortable as those chairs in those firms, but what made these seats better than the office chairs is the amazing massage capability that is found in the front two seats. The Corsair offers a number of different engine combinations. There are the Inline-4 turbocharged 2.0L or the 2.3L with the 8-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission with paddle activation; or if you choose to go the hybrid route, you could get the 2.5L i-VCT Atkinson I-4 Hybrid Engine that produces some pretty impressive MPG's. The Reserve SUV I had for the week came with the 2.3-liter that produces an impressive 295 horsepower and 310 ft.-lbs. of torque.
I had some long-time friends visiting the week I had the Reserve, so I had chauffeur duties as we gave them the nickel tour of the North Texas area. It was a great opportunity to see if the Corsair could accommodate 4 full-size adults, and it powered through like a champ. I never once experienced any power lag the few times I would need to power my way down an on ramp and merge into the Dallas traffic. The Lincoln brand has been known for having one of the smoothest rides dating all the way back to the 1970's, but they aren't resting on their reputation. The Corsair features a Lincoln first with its rear integral bush suspension, which absorbs impacts that would otherwise be felt in the cabin.
And as for cabin space, there was plenty of leg and head room for two men that are over 6'2" tall. The dual-wall dashboard in the engine compartment provides an additional sound-dampening barrier between passengers and the engine that allowed us to have conversations that were easily heard from anywhere in the cabin. There is one thing I didn't get a chance to utilize to its fullest during my week drive, but I have experienced it in other Lincoln's that I have driven and it is something that is very unique to the automotive industry. Each Corsair comes with a 14-speaker Revel™ premium audio system that is specially tuned to find the exact placement, tuning, and calibration of the 14 Revel speakers; so the audio quality and accuracy is specifically unique for each and every Corsair cabin.
Safety
There are a lot of safety features that come standard with the new corsair, but its superior ratings on the front crash prevention systems helped the Corsair qualify for the coveted Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. My favorite safety feature is the evasive steer assist, which offers assistance to the driver to help avoid a collision with a slower or stopped vehicle in front of them. The system provides additional steering support when a collision cannot be avoided by braking alone.
