For the past nine years, I get convertible press loans the two or three weeks prior to Christmas so my wife and I can visit some of the top North Texas neighborhoods to view their amazing Christmas light displays and partake in a few charity drive-through Christmas light shows. For one of the weeks this year, we had the head-turning 2024 Lexus LC 500 convertible with the Copper Crest exterior. It's always interesting to see the head nods and hear the nice car
comments as we drive up and down the neighborhood streets. The LC always gets way more adult men and young boys giving the nice car
shout-out where a few of the other convertibles will mostly get young boys and girls screaming NICE CAR!
The LC 500's genesis as a fully aspirated front-engine, rear-wheel drive drivetrain layout that incorporated Lexus's next-generation Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive system began in 2010 as a concept under the LC-LF nomenclature (Lexus Future-Luxury Coupe). It was first revealed as a production vehicle at the 2016 Detroit Auto show and then made its debut on dealer lots in 2017, eventually replacing the Lexus SC in Lexus' stable of luxury vehicles.
When I drove that first LC hardtop back in 2017, my opening line for my social media post was, Sexy—Hot—Fast—There will be speeding tickets issued while this car is parked.
The LC was the first car that I drove and reviewed that caused such a commotion practically every time I drove it. The only other car I can remember getting that much attention was the Rolls Royce Ghost.
After spending a week in 2017 driving the newest and hottest Grand Tourer in North America, I felt the LC needed to be a convertible. Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking hardtop luxury coupe (LC), but I felt it was a natural convertible. So when I found out I would be driving one of the LC convertible prototypes, I was absolutely like a little kid waiting for Santa to arrive with my Christmas presents. So when I found out there was going to be one in the press fleet for the Christmas holiday light season, I had a bit of an extra spring in my step the week before we got it.

Favorite Features
The soft-top convertible accentuates the sleek lines of the convertible without significant intrusions to the trunk and cabin space that can come with a heavier, bulkier hard top. It features an innovative folding mechanism that allows it to be closed in 15 seconds and up to 31 mph. There is also a tonneau cover it packs into when it is stored.
I will use the same closing statement I used back in 2017: What impresses me most about this car, is it's not some dainty flower you have to handle with kid gloves. It may say impeccably styled high quality Lexus, but I'm pretty sure there are going to be some supercar owners blushing after tangling with this car.
