Mojave's bold branding and aggressive exterior unleashes the spirit of the dunes.
The Jeep Gladiator is a mid-size pickup truck that made its debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, and then hit the streets in the spring of 2019. This isn't just any pickup; it's a name that carries a legacy. The Jeep Gladiator resurrects an iconic moniker from the annals of automotive history. The original Jeep Gladiator, produced from 1962 to 1988, went by the name J-Series after 1971. This reincarnation not only carries a legendary name but also must live up to its heritage, blending rugged utility with modern innovations. My press loan for the week was the Gladiator 4x4 with the Mojave package that was first introduced at the 2020 Chicago auto show. The Mojave package was the first Desert-Rated
model in Jeep's formidable lineup. The Mojave has a rugged profile with a host of features that are tailored to conquer the most challenging desert landscapes.
Desert Engineering
Before the Gladiator Mojave was released to the public, it was put through a series of strenuous tests in five separate categories: Ride Control and Stability, Traction, Ground Clearance, Maneuverability, and Desert Prowess making it adventure-ready right off the dealer lot. What makes this Gladiator special is the new desert package will be utilizing the proven Command-Trac 4x4 system. This system incorporates a two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. There is also the heavy-duty third-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles, complete with a 4.10:1 axle ratio and a standard electronic-locking rear differential. The true ace up the Mojave's sleeve is an exclusive feature that sets it apart from the pack: the ability to lock the rear axles at high speeds while engaged in 4WD High mode. This innovation ensures unparalleled stability and control, allowing the Mojave to gracefully glide over the shifting sands with poise and precision. Also, the Mojave has a leading approach angle of 44.7 degrees, a breakover angle of 20.9 degrees, a departure angle of 25.5 degrees, and an exceptional ground clearance of 11.6 inches. All of these engineering innovations allow for the best opportunity for a great day off-grid desert challenges including sand dunes. The Mojave trim proudly boasts a set of 33" Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, skillfully mounted on distinct seventeen-inch low-gloss black painted aluminum-alloy wheels. But it's not just about the shoes; this Gladiator takes desert domination seriously, thanks to the FOX brand 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks with external reservoirs that soak up even the harshest terrain with remarkable composure.
4x4 capability has always been the foremost pillar of the Jeep brand and the new Gladiator Mojave is a natural extension of our legendary Trail Rated 4x4 capability leadership. Jeep Gladiator is already the most capable midsize pickup on the planet and, with the addition of the new Mojave model, we are delivering our most passionate customers a new level of capability with the ability to master high-speed desert and sand terrains.

Exterior
The Mojave's exterior branding mirrors its adventurous soul with distinctive Mojave emblems found on both sides of the hood that really popped against the Silver Zynith clear-coat exterior paint. The all-new Desert Rated
badge is a first for Jeep as it is a natural extension of the legendary Trail Rated
designation assigned to other Jeeps. The vivid orange tow hooks are not only eye-catching accents that look great against the black bumper and traditional silver Jeep grille but also a vivid reminder of the ready-to-rescue capability the Gladiator offers other adventurers when the going gets tough.
Whether it's tackling steep inclines or daring descents, the Gladiator Mojave embodies the resolute commitment to the off-road excellence. Unfortunately, I live in Dallas Texas with the nearest sand dune a full day's drive away, so as you can imagine I was a bit bummed not putting the Mojave through its paces. But, I have participated in enough off-roading adventures to say the engineering advances the Gladiator Mojave has made, don't just redefine off-road performance; it reimagines it. With its exceptional combination of purposeful design elements and cutting-edge features, this Desert-Rated Gladiator is poised to rewrite the rules of desert adventuring. So, for those who dare to venture where others hesitate, the Mojave stands as a testament to Jeep's enduring commitment to crafting vehicles that tackle nature's challenges head-on and emerge victorious. Go see a Mojave for yourself in person in the wild.
