At age five, my first memory of Galveston was seeing the twinkling island lights from the back seat of my family's station wagon as we approached the causeway one summer night. (My second was falling rear-first through a luggage stand that I mistook for a chair, but that's another story entirely!) Those lights were awe-inspiring to my young mind, and for years afterward whenever I saw a similar impressive display, I would often longingly say,
Oh, it reminds me of Galveston.
Although I was raised in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, I accumulated many memories of Galveston over the following decades as I traveled back to the island summer after summer after summer. Shared experiences include shopping the Strand, watching dolphins from the Seawall, dressing up for dinner at Gaido's, camping on the beach, staying at the Flagship and then seeing it go, cruising on the Carnival Conquest, throwing beads at Mardi Gras, and so much more.
TheFlashList.com now strives to share the enchantment of Galveston Island with other residents of Texas and the entire nation by promoting the area's top restaurants, hotels, shops, and attractions. It is our sincere hope that others will enjoy the island's casual, laid-back style as much as we always have.
