Performing Arts Fort Worth proudly announces its 2017-2018 Broadway at the Bass Season at Bass Performance Hall!

For the first time ever, the season is made up of brand-new, direct-from-Broadway shows, all of which are making their Bass Hall debuts.

This season marks an important milestone for us. It's the first time we've presented a Broadway at the Bass season made up of all-new shows, says Dione Kennedy, President & CEO of Performing Arts Fort Worth. It's a great mix of titles, too,she says. Shows that will make you laugh, shows that will pull at your heart-strings, shows that your kids will love. We're very, very excited about this season.

Five-show season ticket packages start at $187 and go on sale at 10:00 a.m. today. For more information, call 817-212-4280 or visit www.basshall.com.

Kicking off the season in January, 2018, will be the outrageously hysterical SOMETHING ROTTEN!, the story of two 16th century brothers who are trying to succeed in the theatrical world but are constantly upstaged by a pesky writer by the name of William Shakespeare.

The series will close with another rollicking show, SCHOOL OF ROCK, based on the hit 2003 movie of the same name. Like the film, the stage production features an all-kid rock band whose members rock out on real instruments; the show also features new music from Andrew Lloyd Webber

In between will be FINDING NEVERLAND, the acclaimed, Tony Award-winning musical about J.M. Barrie, the man who created Peter Pan; the feel-good hit musical WAITRESS, featuring the music of Sara Bareilles; and LOVE NEVER DIES, the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster The Phantom of the Opera.

In addition, there will be two add-on Broadway Specials: CHICAGO THE MUSICAL and Sister's Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi's Gold (in McDavid Studio). Currently, tickets to the Broadway Specials are available only as add-on's to the season ticket package. Individual tickets will go on sale TBA.

Performing Arts Fort Worth will once again co-present several of the shows with Dallas Summer Musicals: WAITRESS, SCHOOL OF ROCK and LOVE NEVER DIES.

These shows will play both venues, allowing Broadway lovers across the North Texas area ample opportunities to experience the Best of Broadway.

Broadway at the Bass

SOMETHING ROTTEN! (January 17-21, 2018)

Welcome to the '90s — the 1590s — long before the dawn of premium tickets, star casting and reminders to turn off your cell phones. Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom (Tony® nominee Rob McClure and Broadway's Josh Grisetti) are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as The Bard (Tony® nominee Adam Pascal). When a local soothsayer foretells the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first MUSICAL! Amidst the scandalous excitement of Opening Night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self… and all that jazz. With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, SOMETHING ROTTEN! is an uproarious dose of pure Broadway fun and an irresistible ode to musicals — those dazzling creations that entertain us, inspire us, and remind us that everything’s better with an exclamation point! From the director of Aladdin and the co-director of The Book of Mormon, SOMETHING ROTTEN! is “Broadway’s big, fat hit!” (New York Post).

FINDING NEVERLAND (March 20-25, 2018)

The family-friendly Broadway spectacular FINDING NEVERLAND tells the incredible story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan. Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration, until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers. With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever.

WAITRESS (June 19-24, 2018)

Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, this irresistible new show features original music and lyrics by six-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles. Brought to the stage by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life. “WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly.

LOVE NEVER DIES (August 7-12, 2018)

Don’t miss the magnificent continuation of one of the world’s greatest love stories with LOVE NEVER DIES, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s spellbinding sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak shows of Coney Island. In this new, electrically charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar, but he has never stopped yearning for his one true love and musical protégée, Christine Daaé. In a final bid to win back Christine’s love, the Phantom lures her, Raoul and their young son from their home in Manhattan to the glittering and glorious world of Coney Island. “A masterpiece” - Sunday Express.

SCHOOL OF ROCK (August 28-Sept. 2, 2018)

“Fists of all ages shall be pumping!” (Vanity Fair). Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, all the original songs from the movie, and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band, playing their instruments live on stage. “An inspiring jolt of energy, joy and mad skillz!” (Entertainment Weekly).

CHICAGO has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping-song after another; and the most astonishing dancing you've ever seen. No wonder CHICAGO has been honored with six Tony Awards®, two Olivier Awards®, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations. Whether you're looking for your first Broadway musical, whether you've seen the Academy Award®-winning film and want to experience the show live on stage or whether you've seen it before and want to recapture the magic, CHICAGO always delivers.

SISTER’S CHRISTMAS CATECHISM: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold (Dec. 13-17, 2017; McDavid Studio)

It's "CSI: Bethlehem" in this holiday mystery extravaganza from the author of Late Nite Catchism. In this all-new show, Sister takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages: Whatever happened to the Magi's gold? ("We know that Mary used the frankincense and myrrh as a sort of potpourri - they were in a barn after all"). Employing her own scientific tools, assisted by a local choir as well as a gaggle of audience members, Sister creates a living nativity unlike any you've ever seen. With gifts galore and bundles of laughs, Sister's Christmas Catechism is sure to become the newest addition to your holiday traditions.
