Austin Film Festival Announces an All-Virtual Experience for Its 27th Annual Festival

Austin Film Festival has announced that its 27th annual Film Festival and Writers Conference will be a completely virtual event including panels and film screenings that will feature leading industry creatives, to be held this October 22nd-29th, 2020. The Virtual Writers Conference will include the addition of a full day more of panels and workshops, with sessions held from Thursday, October 22nd through Monday, October 26th. Industry insiders such as Lindsay Doran (producer Sense and Sensibility), Scott Frank (writer Get Shorty), Kevin Willmott (cowriter Da 5 Bloods), and Tracey Scott Wilson (writer Respect) will engage in topical industry conversation and speak to their process of turning craft into career. The programming team is committed to providing the same immersive and interactive offerings to its attendees by translating Conference favorites such as the annual Austin Film Festival Pitch Competition and Roundtable sessions to an engaging virtual experience. Additionally, the Conference will include virtual networking opportunities so creatives from all over the world can connect and collaborate.

The Virtual Film Festival will include eight full days of films comprised of marquee premieres and selected films from this year's competition. Viewers will have the opportunity to tune in live to experience the exciting atmosphere of film premieres or alternatively to enjoy films on demand and on their own schedule. Austin Film Festival's Virtual Badge, offered at its lowest price to date, grants its audience access to the event's five days of panels alongside eight days of films and filmmaker Q&As. The 2020 Virtual Austin Film Festival & Writers Conference takes place from October 22 through 29, 2020, with more panelist and film announcements to come. ABOUT AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL:

Austin Film Festival (AFF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the art, craft and business of writers and filmmakers and recognizing their contributions to film, television and new media. AFF champions the work of aspiring and established writers and filmmakers by providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation, and encouraging dynamic and long-lasting community partnerships. This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department and the Texas Commission on the Arts.www.austinfilmfestival.com

Though AFF is one of the largest script competitions around, every entrant receives personalized attention and multiple reads throughout the process. Each script is read in its entirety by a First-Round reader. If the script is given a yes, it will be read a second time by a Second-Round reader. If the script is given a no in the first round, another reader is required to read up to page 10. If by this page they think the script should not advance, they can give it a second no, which means the script will not advance to the Second Round. This second reader can read to the end and change the initial no to a yes, if they think it should advance.

AFF goes the extra mile to send both postal mail and e-mail notifications to ensure that everyone is aware of their placement in the competition. All entrants receive FREE Reader Comments, which are a brief, overall summary of their notes. We have discovered over a 27-year period that those who get involved with us are committed to AFF's mission of championing writers. This communal resilience has guided our organization every step of the way and is what revitalizes the work ethic of our staff and those who choose to volunteer their time.
