NAIAS Brightens Up the Winter Blues

Detroit is hosting the North American International Auto Show, so stay tuned for some of the glamour and highlights.

The New Year's hangover is over and your Christmas ornaments have been stowed away for another year. Do you have the Winter Blues? Well there's a cure for it. Let's go to an automobile show and see the next got-to-have vehicles.

Detroit is hosting the North American International Auto Show January 13-28, 2018, and TheFlashList.com will be bringing its readers some of the glamour and highlights.

The glamour part kicks off with a charity preview Saturday evening the 13th, with a multi-million dollar collection of ultra-luxury automobiles charity fundraiser, called The Gallery. In addition to showcasing the North American debut of the 2018 Rolls-Royce Phantom, The Gallery will feature a host of prestigious brands, including Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, to name a few. Guests will see everything from the Bentley Bentayga and Bugatti Chiron to the Ford GT and Lamborghini Aventador S coupe, and much more.

On Sunday thousands of journalists, from the four corners of the World, will swarm Cobo Center to cover the media days.

Some of the expected debuts include:

Mercedes-Benz is offering a new model G with more off?road capability than ever calling it an icon reinvented. Mercedes says its new G-Mode paves the way where there are none. One of the prerequisites for the improved off-road handling characteristics is the new 'G-Mode'. The G-Class changes to 'G-Mode' independently of the chosen drive program as soon as one of the three differential locks has been activated or LOW RANGE has been engaged. This off-road mode adapts the adjustable damping of the chassis and the steering as well as the accelerator characteristic, avoids unnecessary gearshifts and ensures maximum off-road capability. A small 'G' icon discreetly lights up in the instrument cluster. The G simply swallows up major bumps, and even in extreme terrain the driver does not have to frantically hold on to the steering wheel to effortlessly manoeuvre. Mercedes-Benz will also premiere its luxury SUV the GLS Grand Edition. The GLS450 has a six-cylinder 3-liter engine producing 362hp and the GLS sports a 4.66 liter eight-cylinder engine pumping out 449hp. According to the German manufacturer, The Mercedes-Benz GLS combines luxury with impressive levels of comfort, agile dynamics and extensive safety systems. New for 2018, the Grand Edition, featuring luxurious interiors and edition-exclusive components will be available for both the GLS450 4MATIC and GLS550 4MATIC SUVs. The GLS Grand Edition will make its premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2018, and will be available in U.S. dealers by mid-2018. The Grand Edition features exclusive interior and exterior elements. A highly luxurious interior features Porcelain/Espresso Brown and designo Nappa leather seats with exclusive diamond quilting and special Budapest-design piping. The interior is finished with an open pore brown ash trim with light stripes and a Nappa leather dashboard. The special edition is also standard equipped with ambient lighting and Espresso Brown velour floor mats. The elegant exterior of the Grand Edition on the GLS450 4MATIC features 20-inch 10-spoke two-tone wheels and an advanced LED Intelligent Light System. The GLS550 4MATIC is standard equipped with 21-inch wheels and Active LED headlamps. Both models are finished with the special 'Grand Edition'.

Pickup Trucks: Even though the NAIAS is called an 'auto show,' pickup trucks, the fastest growing segment of vehicles, will be well represented. Looking to dislodge the Ford F-150 dominance, General Motors will preview more details about its 2019 Silverado (revealed last month at Texas Motor Speedway) and Dodge has a new Ram model to debut.

Acura and BMW will debut their 2019 sport coupes.

Concept Cars: The sexiest part of any show is the concept cars. These may or may not go into production, but likely show the direction of where the manufacturers are heading.

Infiniti will show off its bold new sedan idea called the 'Q Inspiration.'

There's plenty more, so stay tuned. Local newspapers speculate that 45 new model vehicles will be shown. And if you want to head to the Mid-West, the NAIAS opens to the public on January 20th and runs through January 27, 2018.
