After sellout crowds in 2015, Preservation Dallas is bringing back its popular Celebrate Downtown: Dive In tour of rooftops and historic places in downtown Dallas. The self-guided walking tour begins with check-in at Main Street Garden where attendees receive a map and directions to the nine locations on the tour. The event concludes at Dallas Power & Light building with a poolside reception including light bites, beer and wine.


Tour sites include:


  • Main Street Garden ? site of a former parking garage and now a 1.75-acre public park opened in 2009

  • Lone Star Gas Lofts ? a 13-story Art Deco structure built in 1924 (rehabilitation complete)

  • Encore Park (Warner Brothers Building) ? former film distribution hub and recording studio for musicians, including blues legend Robert Johnson, built in 1929 (rehabilitation in progress)

  • Dallas Power & Light ?complex of three buildings constructed between 1903 and 1931 with the last a 19-story Art Deco skyscraper (rehabilitation complete)

  • LTV Tower ? a 33-floor high rise that opened in 1964 as the fifth tallest building in Dallas (rehabilitation complete)

  • Magnolia Gas Station ? triangular-shaped two-story building which started as a service station in 1930 and became home to KLIF and the Dallas Observer (rehabilitation complete)

  • Scottish Rite Cathedral ? took seven years to build and was dedicated in 1913 (rehabilitation complete)

  • Fidelity Union Life Insurance (The Mosaic) ? a 21-story tower that opened in 1952 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 (rehabilitation complete)

  • Mayflower Building ? a nine-story cast-in-place concrete structure with aluminum curtain wall completed in 1965 (rehabilitation complete)
